Powerful AI Aligner Planning

With the AI aligner planning tools in the OrthoLab App, go from a patient scan to a ready-to-order treatment plan in minutes, chairside

AI Prepare™

Fully automated intra-oral scan processing

Import intra-oral scans directly from your scanner or from STL files to prepare them in one-click

Scan to orthodontic treatment model conversion is truly turnkey unlike alternative solutions. No manual input is required to guide segmentation, landmarking or axes creation.

AI Plan™

Fully automated AI aligner planning, optimised for aesthetic “Social Six” cases

Set your treatment preferences and compute a plan. Conveniently adjust with a virtual technician and simple on screen tools

Unlike alternative automated target dentition solutions, OrthoLab treatment plans are not constrained to fixed arch shapes with a generic prescription and fully account for inter-arch coordination.

RealView™

Smile prediction updated in real time as you plan

Upload a front facing photograph of the patient to simulate the visual impact of treatment decisions, support patient involvement and aid conversions

Unlike alternative smile prediction, OrthoLab uses the patient’s real tooth geometry. No manual registration of photo to 3D model is required.

AI Aligner Planning FAQs

What are the requirements for imported scans?

OrthoLab’s robust scan processing is capable of handling scans from a variety of intra-oral scanners.

Direct integration is currently available with 3Shape and Medit scanners.

Digital impressions derived from cast impressions may be handled, but you should take extra care to ensure that no defects or artefacts are introduced in the impression or cast.

A good quality scan for use in OrthoLab will:

  • Cover all visible crown regions including those not being treated (Upper and Lower are required for all cases)
  • Cover adequate gingiva around the full gingival margin
  • Consist of a single continuous surface with no large holes, missing or superfluous regions.
  • Capture fine details of the patient’s anatomy, including in the interproximal areas
What treatment planning preferences are available?

Treatment preferences in OrthoLab are intended to make planning easy for dentists, even with no experience of orthodontics or clear aligners and so represent broad clinical aims and decisions.

Preferences include:

  • The jaws you would like to treat (Upper and/or Lower)
  • The regions to treat (3-3, 5-5, 10-10)
  • Whether the midline matching (upper to lower) should be improved
  • Whether you are comfortable to perform IPR for the case
  • Whether you are comfortable using attachments for the case

The app will then do the heavy lifting to create a bespoke high quality plan for your case.

How do you get a RealView™ simulation with your plan?

To get a RealView™ smile simulation, you only need to include a front-facing photograph of your patient.

The photograph is best taken from a reasonable distance (more than 1 metre) with the zoom function ensuring the face is large in the frame. This avoids fish-eye warping effects.

It should be a broad smile photo ensuring most of the teeth are visible.

Both mobile and DSLR quality photographs are usable.

The RealView™; simulation will be initialised during AI Prepare™; scan processing and will then become available in the “Photo” view by clicking the chain-link icon.

What if I'm not confident to choose a plan myself?

We aim to support dentists with no prior experience of orthodontic treatments to start using clear aligners.

Alongside automated AI aligner planning tools, you will be assigned an expert technician for each patient who will be available to offer guidance when choosing and refining your treatment plans.

For those needing extra help, we recommend choosing the optional specialist vetting option when you order. Your specialist will thoroughly review your plan and ensure it is safe and effective for your patient.
